How To Classify Various Types of Waste Easily

April 16, 2022 davidcrossan@googlemail.com Comments Off

Finally, waste disposal is all about ensuring that the proper materials are disposed of at the proper location. Classifying trash
appropriately is critical to this procedure; we discussed EWC Codes (a list of waste classifications) last week. However, how can you
determine which ones you require?

Sorting Your Waste

The first thing to note about trash classification is that it is not nearly as difficult as it sounds. You do not need to go through it thoroughly
and pick out every single item ” who would want to do that? It’s more about providing the people who come to collect your skip (that’s us!)
with a sense of what’s inside so we can process it properly. Generally, we’ll be able to deduce it from context”if you’re a business, we’ll
be collecting commercial waste by definition. If you are a homeowner, the waste will be domestic. However, the more details we obtain,
the better.

Before we collect your skip, it’s a good idea to have the necessary EWC codes (and, if applicable, SIC codes) available so that we know
exactly what we’re collecting and can complete the procedure promptly and efficiently.

What Types of Waste Are There?

There will always be some crossover between different sorts of garbage-for example, glass bottles. However, the following are some of
the most significant ones:

Household Waste:

This is the type of material that a typical home creates. You’re familiar with these kinds of items”after all, we all discard them on a daily
basis! Domestic garbage includes paper, plastic, ceramics, glass, polythene, textiles (read: old clothes), and food waste.

Commercial Waste: Anything created by a business is considered commercial waste, even if the item is identical to household waste.
Commercial waste might include empty printer cartridges, packing materials, damaged or broken products, polythene and plastics, and
printer paper.

Waste from Medical or Clinical Procedures

Clinical waste is typically generated by hospitals and medical institutes and must be handled properly due to its potential for harm. Clinical
trash includes blood from patients, sharp-pointed items (such as needles), and amputated limbs.

While you probably do not have any dismembered limbs laying around (we hope! ), your trash may nonetheless qualify as clinical waste if
it contains medication or home injections. At the very least, please notify us!

Contaminated Waste:

The UK government (and we!) places a premium on proper hazardous waste disposal”incorrect disposal is really unlawful. That seems
to make sense, given that this is the substance that is dangerous or explosive. If you’re concerned about whether your garbage is
hazardous, the majority of the time, determining its classification is a matter of common sense. Batteries are a well-known example.
Numerous products also bear orange and black “Danger” symbols for the same reason.

If you’re unclear, though, you can search for EWC codes by text; that is, you can write in the waste’s name and the search results will
indicate whether or not the trash is hazardous. Make sure to inform us about that as well! We may be able to accept it, or we may need to
arrange for a second collection, depending on the nature of the item.

Should I Continue To Hire A Skip To Remove It?

Without a doubt! If you know what you’re disposing of ” for example, if it’s household waste ” you should have no difficulty. If you’re
unsure about anything you’re discarding, it’s always worth attempting to locate its EWC Code prior to hiring a skip; if you’re unable to do
so, you can always call us on 0300 100 0028 and we’ll be happy to assist you.
